AS China and Singapore celebrated, Malaysia's Danny Chia was left to ponder his fate after a horrible 17-over 87 sent him packing from the British Open on Friday.
Long-hitting Lam Chih Bing became the first Singaporean to make the cut at the British Open when the the 31-year-old recovered from a stumbling start to card a five-over 75, qualifying for the weekend by two strokes with a seven-over total of 147.
Asian Tour No 1 Liang Wen-chong also successfully made the halfway cut in his British Open debut, carding a 71 on Friday.
Liang, the first China golfer to qualify for the Open, took a total eight-over 148 in the weekend.
But it all went horribly wrong for Danny.
Having kept himself in contention with a 76 in the first round, Danny's game collapsed on Friday and his second Open ended even worst than his first in 2005, when he missed the cut by a mere two shots.
He had six double bogeys and five bogeys on Friday.
