ROME: Serie A team Atalanta and Serie B club Livorno could begin next season with six-point penalties if found guilty in a match-fixing probe, Italy's football federation said on Friday.
The federation's prosecutor requested the penalties in a hearing of the disciplinary commission, which is expected to rule next week.
The prosecutor also requested suspensions for two players charged with attempting to fix the two league games between their teams last season, the federation said in a statement.
Livorno captain David Balleri and Atalanta captain Gian Paolo Bellini could be banned for three years and one month respectively.
Five-month suspensions were requested for three other Livorno players -- brothers Emanuele and Antonio Filippini, and Alessandro Grandoni -- for failing to inform federation authorities about the alleged fixing of the May match. Livorno have since been relegated to Serie B.
The prosecutor also requested a E100,000 (RM520,000) fine for Livorno. The teams have denied any attempts at match-fixing. -- AP
