CAIRNS (Aus): Grant Schubert scored a brace yesterday as Australia prepared for their Olympic gold medal defence in men's hockey with a 4-1 win over South Korea.

Schubert scored in the 22nd minute and Des Abbott gave Australia a 2-0 lead three minutes later before Schubert and Kiel Brown scored second-half goals for the winners. Jang Jong-hyun scored South Korea's goal.

The teams play again tomorrow and Wednesday.

Eight players from Australia's 2004 team are in the 16-man Beijing squad. -- AP
