SERVING as one of the most influential sports channels in Malaysia, Stadium Astro is bringing to its two million home viewers bigger and better coverage of leading sports events.
UEFA Euro 2008 will be broadcast “live” from Austria and Switzerland. “We are indeed excited with the latest line-up for our viewers. This is a great sporting year,” said Astro CEO Rohana Rozhan.
The tagline for the channel is “The Best Seat Is In Your House”.
Stadium Astro is the official broadcaster for Euro 2008 and will show all 31 matches of which 10 will be shown “live” exclusively over Astro Supersport (Ch 816).
Four channels will be airing the live matches and they are Ch 816, 819, 820 and 821, from June 8 to 30. Viewers will receive comprehensive coverage of UEFA Euro 2008 across these four channels, complete with interactive applications.
The matches will be made available to customers on the current sports package at no extra cost.
Astro also has included a greater level of interactivity through the red button feature on the decoder.
It remains the only unique platform in Malaysia to introduce a holistic viewing experience with multi channel and chat and interactive capabilities.
Stadium Astro is also preparing for the Beijing Olympics later in August.
“We are providing 10 channels for one of the biggest sporting events in the world. The channels will showcase the well-known sports events and those which have high participation from our athletes,” said Rohana.
Stadium Astro is planning to send Malaysian sports commentators to Beijing for a local touch in its presentation. The channel is also promoting local sports among viewers.
“We are working on a few productions with the local athletes who will be heading off to China,” Rohana said.
Stadium Astro currently brings 24-hour live and exclusive sports content through Astro Supersports (CH 811), ESPN (CH 812), Star Sports (CH 813), Eurosport (CH 814) and the Golf Channel (CH 815).
