They are Equinox Flower on Nov 1 and A Married Life on Nov 15. Both shows are at 3pm and entry is free.

Equinox Flower is a 1958 film directed by Yasujiro Ozu and produced by Shizuo Yamanouchi. It stars Shin Saburi and Kinuyo Tanaka.

It is the story of Wataru Hirayama, a corporate executive who sympathises with Fumiko, the only child of his close friend Mikami.

Fumiko has set up house with her lover, without her parents’ consent.
While he advises Mikami to accept Fumiko’s decision, Hirayama does not allow his eldest daughter, Sentsuko, to marry her sweetheart, Taniguchi.

The film is based on a novel written by Ton Satomi.

A Married Life is a 1951 film produced by Sanezumi Fujimoto and directed by Mikio Naruse.

It is based on a novel by Fumiko Hayashi and stars Ken Uehara and Setsuko Hara.

It tells of Hatsunosuke Okamoto and his wife Michiyo who move from Tokyo to a modest neighbourhood in Osaka.

The childless Michiyo is dissatisfied with her life while Hatsunosuke, who works for a securities firm, has no prospects for a promotion.

Michiyo nags Hatsunosuke who remains aloof to avoid a confrontation.

When Hatsunosuke’s niece, Satoko, runs away from her home in Tokyo and arrives at their doorstep, problems arise.

Hatsunosuke is delighted to show his beautiful young niece around Osaka.

Michiyo stays home and irons the laundry while her husband and Satoko frequent the local taverns.

One day, a new pair of shoes is stolen from their house while Michiyo is at a class reunion.

Hatsunosuke and Satoko were both at home at the time, and Michiyo’s imagination runs wild when she sees a blanket spread out upstairs.
