KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Mokhzani Mahathir has heeded his father Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's call to leave Umno.

The second child of the former prime minister faxed his resignation letter to the Merbok Umno division on Tuesday.

Mokhzani, 47, is hardly active in politics, focusing more on his businesses.

In Sungai Petani, Merbok Umno division deputy head Datuk Tajul Urus Md Zain said Mokhzani's move would not have any impact on the division's leadership as he was only an ordinary member of the Sungai Layar Hujung branch.
