KELANTAN’S LOSS: Tighten law on theft of metal
By : ABDULLAH SANI ISMAIL, Tanah Merah, Kelantan

PYLONS for power transmission and telephone wires are being stolen all over Kelantan. This is so rampant that one hears complaints of blackouts and disruptions f telephone services almost daily.

So far, the authorities have been unable to apprehend the thieves or determine who buys the stolen wires.

Residents around Banggol Pisang Gala of Tanah Merah have been unable to use their telephones and Internet since Sept 28. At the time of writing this letter, their telephones are still not working.

Perhaps the authorities can formulate a law making it an offence to buy or be in possession of scrap from electricity pylons and telephone wires; something similar to the law on prohibited drugs.
