ENOUGH is enough. The Malaysian Trades Union Congress said it was tired of engaging in a never-ending dialogue with the government.
It wants a minimum wage and a cost of living allowance (Cola) for the workers.
So, despite numerous appeals by the Human Resources Ministry to call off a protest, a group of MTUC leaders and members marched to Parliament House yesterday to hand over copies of a memorandum to the prime minister and MPs.
At the gate of the Parliament building this morning, MTUC president Syed Shahir Syed Mohamud and his secretary-general G. Rajasekaran were greeted by several Pakatan Rakyat MPs.
Syed Shahir and Rajasekaran were allowed to proceed to Parliament House, while the rest waited at the gate.
He handed over a copy of the memorandum to Deputy Minister of Human Resources Datuk Noraini Ahmad.
The umbrella organisation of private sector unions has been asking the government to introduce a minimum wage of RM900 a month for all workers, a RM300 Cola for private sector employees and a review of the amended Industrial Relations Act and Trade Unions Act.
