KUALA LUMPUR: The National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM) hopes to raise more than RM1 million at the Relay for Life KL campaign, held from 6pm on May 31 to 10am on June 1 at the MSN training stadium in Bukit Jalil.

The 16-hour event, held for the second time in Malaysia, is expected to draw more than 6,000 participants this year.

"We hope to raise funds from tickets, sponsors and donations throughout the event, which will also see 40 celebrities taking part in one of the relays," said the NCSM event manager, Anne Jansen.

Jansen said the inaugural relay organised last year raised RM500,000, which was used to pay for the advance cancer screening and treatment services borne by NCSM.

She said families who would like to spend a night at the site could also rent tents for RM50.
"They will be entertained with games, competitions and entertainment performances that we have lined up."

There will also be awareness talks on cancer organised by the National Cancer Institute and Hospis Malaysia.

The entry fee for adults is RM10 while admission for children below 12 is free. For details, call 03-2698-7300 or email: clare@cancer.org.my.
