KUALA LUMPUR: Two more police reports were filed against DAP national chairman Karpal Singh for allegedly questioning the powers of the Sultan of Perak, bringing the total number of such reports to more than 20.
The Organisation of Islamic Missionaries and Welfare Malaysia (Pekida) lodged the report at the Gombak police headquarters while the Ex-Services Association of Malaysia filed the report at the Jelapang police station near Ipoh.
Pekida chairman Abdul Rashid Fadzil said the organisation wanted the authorities to take action against Karpal as his allegation is serious and could lead to a racial issue.
"As a politician and party leader, his statement could influence his followers," Abdul Rashid said at a protest assembly against Karpal at Taman Jasa here yesterday.
"Karpal does not respect one of the principles of the Rukun Negara," he added.
The organisation wanted Karpal, who is also the MP for Bukit Gelugor, to publicly apologise for questioning Sultan Azlan Shah's decision to reinstate Datuk Jamry Sury as head of the Perak Religious Department. Rashid described Karpal's action as impolite and disrespectful to the royalty and Malay community.
Meanwhile in Ipoh, Ex-Servicemen's Malaysia Association vice-chairman Yaacob Surati claimed that Karpal had violated the Rukun Negara when he questioned the royal address in parliament, and claimed that the Sultan of Perak had no jurisdiction over Jamry's transfer.
