THE Parliamentary Human Rights Caucus has condemned the death threat against DAP chairman Karpal Singh.
Caucus chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Nazri Aziz said sending a live bullet to the MP for Bukit Gelugor was a despicable act and not the Malaysian way of settling any dispute.
"If there is any unhappiness about his (Karpal's) statement, we have proper channels in the Malaysian system to deal with this," he said at a press conference attended by DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, opposition leader Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Gobind Singh Deo (DAP-Puchong), Karpal's son.
Karpal on Tuesday received a live bullet and a letter threatening his life if he did not stop questioning Malay privileges.
Lim said the DAP opposed any form of violence and said it had always advocated a peaceful means to achieve any objective.
"We believe in the ballot, not the bullet," he said.
Lim called on the police to investigate and nab the culprit or culprits.
Gobind said police had recorded Karpal's statement and yesterday had gone to his office in Jalan Pudu Lama to record statements from the staff.
"They have not provided any protection as yet.
"We have not asked for any."
Meanwhile at a separate function in the lobby, Umno Youth chief Datuk Hishammuddin Hussein condemned the bullet threat.
"Although there were racial sentiments in Karpal's statement, we do not condone death threats."
