I am a chartered accountant. I feel that is important to have people from the professional sector involved in the political arena.
My constituency, Pulai, is a suburban area with very diverse characteristics. My constituents in towns and kampung have different needs and problems.
It is a difficult task to manage everything, but as my constituents have elected me, I look at it as a challenge.
Because of the rapid development in my constituency, some of the people who live in towns are buying land in the kampung because land there is cheaper.
They build big houses next to small wooden kampung houses and this creates a little bit of tension. My constituents have to adjust to the sudden influx of people.
I admit that it is tougher now in Parliament as we have a much stronger opposition.
During previous sessions, Parliament was a lot noisier as many of the first-time members of parliament from the opposition wanted to prove their mettle and did not quite understand some of the rules that should be followed during the proceedings.
The situation now is a lot calmer as some of the MPs are beginning to understand the rules.
In the next few years, I would like to see Iskandar Malaysia play a pivotal role in helping Johor maintain a healthy economic growth.
