KUALA LUMPUR: Stung by what had happened to his daughter, Jazimin Abdul Jalil is doing his bit to ensure that no other family will have to face the nightmare he endured when 8-year-old Nurin Jazlin was abducted and murdered a year ago.
Jazimin is now in the security business, providing guards to those in need of security services.
He had given up his job as a taxi driver in his quest to ensure that other families remained safe.
"I want to fight crime and help people in my own way.
"I want to do my part in ensuring that no other family goes through our ordeal," he said.
The 34-year-old father, who has three other daughters, said he decided to get into the security business as he was frustrated that the killer was still not caught.
Upset that his daughter's murderer is still at large, Jazimin is filing a suit against the police and the government at the Kuala Lumpur High Court today.
Jazimin said his involvement in the security business was also a way to repay the kindness and support shown by the community.
"Every time we go to Nurin's grave, we find flowers and notes there.
"We are touched by the support shown to us," he said, adding that the family visited the grave every Friday.
Jazimin started his business in March, operating from his flat in Kampung Baru Air Panas in Setapak here.
He acts as an agent for several security firms.
"Depending on the client's needs, my job is to find a suitable security firm for them."
Jazimin already has several contracts with individuals and companies to provide security at their homes and business premises.
"We also provide security for factories and residents' associations," he said, adding that he also monitored the guards.
Jazimin said he was in the process of applying for a licence to open his own firm.
The residents of public housing in Kampung Baru Air Panas have also appointed him as their neighbourhood watch deputy president.
Jazimin patrols the eight blocks of flats to ensure that the children are safe.
Nurin's abused body was found in a sports bag outside a shoplot in Petaling Jaya a month after she went missing.
