THE state government will build more infrastructure and facilities to attract tourists to the firefly watching tour in Sungai Timun, Port Dickson.
Tourism, Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage committee chairman Datuk Mohammad Razi Kail said RM250,000 had been spent on facilities such as camping sites, toilets and parking lots.
"Fireflies are among the main attractions in Sungai Timun which boasts of beautiful flora and fauna besides a lush mangrove forest. It is also known as a popular spot to catch freshwater prawns," he said.
Mohammad Razi (BN-Juasseh) was replying to a question from Datuk Dr Awaluddin Said (BN-Kota) on the state government's plan to promote firefly watching in Sungai Timun.
He said the state government was working with tourism agencies to include a visit to Sungai Timun in tour packages besides cooperating with hotels in Port Dickson on the promotion.
Answering a question from Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad (BN-Sungai Lui), Mohammad Razi said the state government would also ensure that no construction projects were carried out on the banks of Sungai Timun.
In reply to Dr Awalludin, he said Rembau Crystal, a subsidiary company of Yayasan Negeri Sembilan, had started producing crystals in March this year.
The company, which began production in September last year, had employed 25 trainees.
"We intend to become the largest producer of crystals in the country.
"We hope that Rembau Crystal will become like Royal Selangor which is known for its extensive array of exclusive pewter designs."
