THE state government will consider waiving quit rent and assessment on houses in abandoned projects which cannot be occupied.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, said there were several cases where these rates had been waived or reduced to help buyers who had to pay rent and bank loans.

Mohamed (BN-Rantau) was answering a question by Datuk Mohd Kamil Abdul Aziz (BN-Gemencheh).

State Housing, Local Government, New Villages and Public Transportation Committee chairman, Siow Chen Pin told Mohd Kamil that the state government had a five-point approach to the issue of abandoned housing projects.

They included proposing that Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad and other developers revive abandoned projects.
"We are also making arrangements for developers, lawyers and buyers to meet and solve issues relating to projects, housing loans as well as requests to local councils to monitor the development of projects.

"Besides that, we will propose that buyers channel complaints to the tribunal handling the matter under the Housing and Local Government Ministry."
