KUALA LUMPUR: A landslip caused two families to vacate their homes on Jalan Setiapuspa 1, Damansara Heights, after the fence wall of one of the houses collapsed yesterday.
Dr Mashita Mansor, 44, who is from one of the affected families, said some tremors were heard next to her corner lot house at 5.15pm
"My daughter was at home and called me. She sounded frantic.
"I rushed home and found that a landslip had demolished our side wall fence."
Dr Mashita said she had just moved into the house six months ago and had wanted the corner lot as she loved the forest reserve next to the house.
To her dismay the Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL) had allowed a developer to carry out development on the land. She claimed the developer cut down trees and carved up the land on a hillslope.
"They are building luxurious condominiums next to our house. I believe it was their construction work that caused the landslip."
She said once construction work started on the hillslope, water started to flow down to her home.
"I complained many times to the Damansara Heights Residents Association which then sent the complaint to DBKL but nothing was done."
Before the landslip and when the developer started work, Dr Mashita said that her fence wall had already begun to lean inwards towards her house and cracks had appeared.
"The authorities told me that there was nothing to worry about as they would evaluate the situation."
A fire department spokesman said he had advised the occupants of the two houses to vacate their houses for safety reasons. The luxury condominium's developers were at the scene evaluating the area and had deployed staff to watch over the two houses.
