KUANTAN: Villagers who allow their livestock to roam freely on trunk roads will be issued compound fines of up to RM500 for each animal caught.
State Veterinary Services Department director, Dr Azahar Idris said this was provided for under the Cattle and Buffalo Control Enactment 2001.
Dr Azahar said unsupervised livestock found on the roads would be kept in a pen for two weeks.
"We will put up notices at the villages about the livestock caught and the owners must settle the compound to claim the animals."
The animals would then be auctioned off if the owners failed to claim them within the 14-day period.
"I hope the owners will pay more attention and place their animals in a pen or tie them up, especially at night."
