NORIAH Kasnon has called for an end to the hue and cry over the allegedly sexist remarks made by a backbencher last week.
The deputy women, family and community development minister said yesterday that Deputy Speaker Datuk Ronald Kiandee had ruled that no action needed to be taken against Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman (BN-Pasir Salak) as there was no protest at the time of the incident.
Tajuddin was alleged to have made lewd remarks while debating with Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa (Pas-Parit Buntar) during a motion to deduct RM10 from Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussien's salary.
The motion was tabled by Teo Nie Ching (DAP-Serdang).
"I hope such things are not repeated in future.
"We should show respect to women as they can be our mother, wife, daughter and friend," Noriah said while replying to points raised during the debate on the allocations to her ministry.
However, she left the door open for members to raise the matter with her boss, Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen, who is overseas attending a conference.
Several women MPs had expressed regret over the language used by Tajuddin and how it had demeaned women and brought disrepute to the house.
Tajuddin said he had been provoked and uttered the words in the heat of the moment.
