FOLLOWING a poor outing in his hometown Kangar in the previous round, Md Emir Firdaus Hasan has vowed to keep his emotions in check when Sepang Circuit's north track plays host to the final round of the Petronas Sprinta AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship this weekend.
In Kangar on Nov 23, the 19-year-old failed as he was desperate to do well.
"I wanted so much to win the race that I failed to control my feelings. As a result, my concentration went haywire and I took the first corner too hastily in the third lap. It was my own fault at my home ground and I can't really blame anyone for that. The Malays have a saying that if it's not meant to be, you have to accept it," said Md Emir.
The slip-up meant he had to settle for eight points instead of the chequered flag. Arch rival Abdul Muhaimin Roslan of Shell Advance Maju Motor, who finished second, widened his lead over Md Emir by 15 points -- 172 to 157.
"I understand my chances of winning the overall Novice title are quite slim with only one more round to go. With such a gap, Muhaimin only needs to finish fifth to secure the title, even if I win the race.
"However, all is not lost and I am determined to fight till the end."
The Motul KMC YY Pang rider said he has already laid his plans for the final assault.
"When I faced-off with Muhaimin at the same track in Round 3, our machines were on par. I've asked my mechanics to add horsepower to my bike for Sepang in preparation for the many straights. Hopefully, my teammate Md Adli Salihin will help in blocking Muhaimin as well."
