TWO of Malaysia’s most iconic singers, pop king Jamal Abdillah and jazz queen Sheila Majid, team up to bring fans A Journey Of Love on May 31.
The duo’s one-afternoon-only showcase takes place at Dewan Perdana Felda, Jalan Maktab, off Jalan Semarak, Kuala Lumpur at 2.30pm.
A celebration of family values to mark both Father’s Day and Mother’s Day, Jamal’s and Sheila’s showcase is organised by Mahir Entertainment and Production.
They will be accompanied by keyboardists Acis and Fiat, guitarist Aji, drummer Fendi, bassist Kelly, percussionist Steve Thornton and back-up vocalists Lydia and Winnie.
Jamal, or Jamal Ubaidillah Ali, hails from Teluk Intan, Perak. The 49-year-old, who spent his early education in Brunei, won a national singing contest in the Sultanate in 1973 and subsequently emerged tops in Bintang RTM six years later.
Jamal has recorded more than 10 albums to date and they include Perpisahan Tanpa Relaku, Derita Cinta, Hatiku Luka Kembali, Layang-Layang, Sendiri, Mati Hidup Semula, Kekasih Awal Dan Akhir, Suratan Kasih and Ghazal Untuk Rabiah.
His best known hit songs, enjoyed by fans of all ages, include Mati Hidup Semula, Kekasih Awal Dan Akhir, Derita Cinta, Penyiksaanku, Berkorban Apa Saja, Seniman Menangis, Suratan Nasib, Sepi Seorang Perindu, Takdir Penentu Segala and Cinta Selayang Pandang.
Jamal is also a popular actor who has appeared in the films Azura, Kekasih Awal Dan Akhir, Suratan Kasih, Ghazal Untuk Rabiah and Sejati.
Kuala Lumpur-born Sheila, whose real name is Shaheila Abdul Majid, is best known for her hits such as Sinaran, Legenda, Ratu and Warna.
Sheila, 44, developed an interest in music when she was four and became a recording artiste in 1982. Her debut album Dimensi Baru was launched in 1985. She performed at the Tokyo Music Festival in 1989, shortly after releasing her multi-platinum album Warna.
Her best-selling album Legenda, a tribute to Malaysia’s King of Entertainment Tan Sri P. Ramlee, was launched in 1990. In the same year, she was awarded the Ahli Mangku Negara (AMN) by the ninth Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Azlan Shah of Perak.
Sheila also promoted Legenda with a successful nationwide tour that spanned two years and culminated in a concert at Stadium Negara which was attended by more than 10,000 people, the largest by a Malaysian solo artiste.
The singer has also dabbled in acting and appeared with Azmil Mustapha, Fauziah Ahmad Daud, the late Izi Yahya and Tan Sri Jins Shamsuddin in the 1985 romantic comedy Ali Setan.
