I AM happy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi intends to bring some tangible reforms within the next few months as an initial step towards achieving more significant changes eventually ("Abdullah: It's about people's perception" -- NST, Oct 12).
In fact, this is what the people want, as amply reflected in the results of the last general election.
It is a good sign that both the Barisan Nasional and opposition will give their support to Pak Lah to help him achieve what he desires in the next few months.
What was even more gratifying was when he said: "I want to get these reforms done and if I need to bring other people to help me accomplish this, I'll do it."
He concedes that visible results are important to satisfy the people and hopes to achieve them before he steps down in March.
The people are now more informed and increasingly vocal in their call for changes to take place without delay, all aimed at reducing the uncertainty created as a result of squabbling among politicians. The anxiety is further compounded by the global financial upheaval.
