Parliament in brief: No automatic registration

Email to friend Email to Friend         Print article Print Article

THE Election Commission is not ready to introduce automatic registration, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. He said a voter may move to another place without updating the information in the identity card.

Chambers cordoned off

THREE entrances to the chambers of the Dewan Rakyat were cordoned off yesterday to prevent the press from approaching ministers and MPs when they emerged from the proceedings. Barriers were erected to bar reporters from going near the doors. Those who wanted to speak to the ministers and MPs had to move further away to the lobby. Last week, ministers were prevented from exiting the chambers as the press surrounded other MPs.

No money politics

THE Election Commission and Anti-Corruption Agency did not receive any complaint on money politics during the general election. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said this in a written reply to a question by Teresa Kok (DAP-Seputeh) who asked what action had been taken against the Barisan Nasional which she said had reportedly given RM200 to each Kelantan voter residing in Kuala Lumpur so that they could return to their hometowns and vote for the BN.
