KOTA BARU: The Lions Club Kota Budaya will set up a dialysis centre to help those suffering from chronic kidney failure, especially the poor, to seek treatment.
The project's organising chairman Lim Kooi Sai said the idea to set up the centre came after they were frequently approached by chronic kidney patients for donations.
He said the centre would be set up in Kota Budaya this year. For a start, it will have 10 dialysis machines costing RM500,000.
He said patients would be charged the lowest fee possible while the poor would either be partly subsidised or given free treatment.
He said the club would be the first in the east coast to have a dialysis centre.
Lim said the club would also appeal to the state and federal government for land and a grant to set up and run the centre.
