KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territories Council of the Association of Former Elected Representatives (Mubarak) has urged the Umno disciplinary board to take more drastic action including expulsion against any party leader or member found to be involved in money politics.
Its treasurer, Datuk Abdul Rahman Sulaiman, said the action would be in accordance with Clause 20.9 of the party constitution, which provided for issuing a warning, suspension, and prohibition on contesting any party post for a specified duration.
He said the Federal Territories Mubarak convened a special meeting last week to discuss the matter.
"The Federal Territories Mubarak views with concern the money politics or political corruption reportedly widespread during the Umno election season.
"The meeting agreed that efforts to fight bribery, abuse of power and other violations of party ethics should be pursued earnestly and proactively.
"This is important in saving Umno from destruction because Umno's destruction will result in the elimination of Malay political power in Malaysia." -- Bernama
