GEORGE TOWN: The state government has wrongly accused MMC-Gamuda Joint Venture Sdn Bhd, the contractor for the double-tracking railway project, of causing the floods in Titi Hitam, Seberang Prai last month.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat said a survey conducted after the incident revealed that the company did nothing wrong.
Ong, who received a copy of a letter sent by the company to Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng on the survey findings said: "I don't want to point fingers at anyone, but it is suffice to say the company is not at fault."
He said this after officiating at the Road Safety Council's annual general meeting here yesterday.
Ong was asked on the progress of the project after it was slapped with a stop-work order by the state government after the floods.
The stop-work order has since been lifted.
"Even with the stop-work order, the company has managed to move ahead of its schedule," Ong said.
The company has completed about 15 per cent of the work compared with the targeted 12 per cent.
