MALAYSIA will meet Myanmar in the semi-finals of the Grand Challenge
Cup 2008 tomorrow at the Thuwanna Youth Training Centre Stadium, Yangon.
The hosts booked their spot to the last four after a 2-1 win against Indonesia on Sunday.
Myanmar, who are known for their aggressive play, will be gunning to avenge their embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Malaysia in the 40th Merdeka Football Tournament last month.
“We are ready to take on the Malaysians. It is not going to be an easy match for them as we want revenge for the defeat in Malaysia,” said Myanmar’s Brazilian coach Marcos Falopa.
“I have asked the players to go all out as we must win at home. We have 30,000 fans to support us.” But Malaysia’s coach B. Sathianathan is treating the match like any other, and is sure his players can handle the pressure.
“It is always tough playing against Myanmar as they are a strong team.
We must be patient and wait for opportunities to come our way,” said S at h i a n at h a n .
“It (the match) will also be a good experience for the players who will be playing in front of 30,000 boisterous fans, and will surely feel the pressure.
“Whatever the outcome may be, we have played some good football here,” added the coach.
Malaysia beat Vietnam 3-0 and drew 1-1 against Hyundai Ulsan of Korea to reach the semi-finals.
The other semi-final will see Hyundai Ulsan and Indonesia.
