THE Perak Football Association's (PFA) financial worries may be over now that Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Nizar Jamaluddin has been elected to head the body.
Mohamed Nizar was unanimously elected as the president of PFA at the bi-annual congress in Ipoh on Sunday. He replaces Datuk Muhamed Mahiyuddin Abdullah who had been the acting president since 2007.
Mohamed Nizar's task looks awesome as not only will he have to settle ever increasing debts, but also try to re-build a new team whose majority of players have left for greener pastures.
The only player left is national defender S. Subramaniam who opted to remain with the team after being coaxed by his parents to stay back.
Perak have lost K. Nanthakumar, Mohamed Hardi Jaafar and both goalkeepers Hamsani Ahmad and Nasril Nourdin to Selangor, while Khalid Jamlus and Indra Putra Mahiyuddin have joined Kelantan. Skipper Ahmad Shahrul Azhar has called it quits.
Also, defender Chan Wing Hoong has moved to Brunei while midfielder Shahrul Nizam Mustapha to Perlis.
With just a month to go before the Super League kicks off, Mohamed Nizar will also have to find a coach to replace Steve Darby who returned to England last month. To help Mohamed Nizar will be State chairman for Youth and Sports Seah Leong Peng who was elected as the deputy president, and Datuk Seri Abdullah Hishan and veteran Khairuddin Ahmad who are the vice presidents.
