LEE Chong Wei and women's doubles Wong Pei Tty-Chin Eei Hui topped the standings, while Wong Mew Choo failed to make the cut for the US$500,000 (RM1.8 million) Super Series Masters Finals to be held in Kota Kinabalu on Dec 18-21 after the qualifying rounds ended with the completion of the Hong Kong Open on Sunday.
Joining Chong Wei and Pei Tty-Eei Hui will be men's doubles Zakry Latif-Fairuzizuan Tazari and Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong -- second and seventh respectively.
While Zakry-Fairuz had confirmed their spot even before the Hong Kong Open, Kien Keat-Boon Heong needed to at least reach the last eight but managed to make the semi-finals in Hong Kong.
Mew Choo will be downhearted having missed out with just 60 points separating her and eighth qualifier Hwang Hye Youn of South Korea.
Mew Choo collected 35,340 to Hye Youn's 35,400. Wong Choong Hann will also be gutted as his shock first-round defeat to South Korean Hong Ji Hoon in Hong Kong paved the way for Chan Yan Kit of Hong Kong to clinch the eighth and final spot in the men's singles.
Meanwhile, Chong Wei's aspirations of winning the title will be difficult as Lin Dan of China had also qualified after winning the China Open and finishing runner-up in Hong Kong.
In the men's doubles, Kien Keat-Boon Heong and Zakry-Fairuz may also find it tough as Olympic champions Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia and South Korea's Jung Jae Sung-Lee Yong Dae will be the pairs to beat in Kota Kinabalu.
