2008/07/08Rock-a-bye turtleBy : Ridzwan A. Rahim
Do you fight with your child during bedtime? RIDZWAN A. RAHIM has a contraption that will help you and your child doze off. WHAT: Twilight Turtle IT’S LIKE: An alternative to tranquilizer darts. PRICE: RM139.90 AVAILABILITY: MPH book stores Q: So you have a turtle toy for this week? A: Yes, it's called Twilight Turtle. Q: It's about the size of a real turtle. What does it do? A: It's supposed to help children fall asleep. Q: Really? I fight with my children all the time to get them to sleep, so I need this. How does it work? A: Twilight Turtle creates a magical and tranquil environment by projecting a starry night sky onto the walls and ceiling of the bedroom. Q: Oh, that's brilliant! I never thought of using the ceiling to amuse my children. A: The best part is, in that position, they are comfortable and ready to doze off. You can help them along by lying down with them to identify the eight major constellations within Twilight's star pattern using the illustrated Star Guide. Q: You mean they follow the actual constellations? A: Yes, they do. They are Orion, Draco the Dragon, Canis Major the Greater Dog, Pegasus the Winged Horse, Gemini the Twins and The Big Dipper/The Great Bear. And the stars don't have to be white either; you can choose from three soothing colour options, blue, green and amber. Q: Is it easy to use? A: Absolutely. There are just a few buttons to deal with and the lights go off by itself within 45 minutes. The toy also comes with an illustrated guide and a story to teach children the significance of astronomy. Q: Does the toy come in any other design apart from turtle? A: As a matter of fact, Twilight Turtle is part of a collection called Sleep Sheep and Friends. The other designs, Sleep Sheep and Lavender Lab, are also designed to help your children fall asleep but instead of constellations, they use sound and smell. Q: So did you take any pictures of the constellations for this review? A: Well, that's the thing. Last night I switched on the Twilight Turtle and with a camera in hand, I lied down on the bed. But the stars were so calming that before I knew it, I had dozed off.
