2008/12/02

Learn more about the universe and cosmologist Stephen Hawking on the Discovery Channel.

STEPHEN Hawking has come to be regarded as the greatest mind in physics since Albert Einstein.

Despite being afflicted with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis — a debilitating motor neuron disease — for practically all his adult life, he has continued his research on cosmology.

This month, Discovery Channel takes you on an ride of adventure and mystery in Stephen Hawking and the Theory of Everything.

This two-part special premieres over Astro Channel 551 on Sunday at 9pm.
Twenty years after he wrote best-selling science book A Brief History of Time, Hawking examines just how far our understanding of the universe has developed.

There have been astonishing advances, and Hawking introduced scientific ideas which weren’t even thought of two decades ago.

Stephen Hawking and the Theory of Everything underscores Hawking’s fascination with the big questions — How did the universe begin? How will it end? What was there before it?

In this programme, other scientists join him in explaining the mysteries of physics where the study of cosmology is concerned.

The programme repeats on Dec 8 at midnight, 8am and 2pm and Dec 13 at 2pm.

In conjunction with the premiere of Stephen Hawking and the Theory of Everything, Discovery Channel is giving away 20 goodie bags, each comprising exclusive Discovery Channel 3-in-1 memo pad and a copy of A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking.

The book reviews the great theories of the cosmos from Newton to Einstein and from the Big Bang to Black Holes.

To stand a chance to win these prizes, all you have to do is answer two simple questions and complete a slogan in less than 20 words. Send in your entries by Dec 22.

Entries, with your full name, address and contact details, should be clipped together with an original copy of this article.

This competition is open to Malaysians only. Winners will be based on all-correct entries and winning slogan. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entertained.
