IT'S time the cabinet directed RTM to discontinue the 30-minute live telecast of the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat. It is a waste of public funds, especially during these trying times, as nothing good will come of it. The money should be put to better use.
The people are grateful to the government for telecasting the proceedings live as it provides the viewers an opportunity to watch their elected representatives raise questions on issues of public importance in a rational and intellectual manner and in particular to assess the answers given by the respective ministers.
Unfortunately, foul-mouthed MPs engage in trivial matters and disrupt the proceedings continually, much to the ire of the public. There seems to be no end to their antics.
The people are tired of the crude exchanges and shouting matches on the small screen. Of greater concern is the poor impression children have of our lawmakers who have hitherto been held in high esteem by them.
As legislators, they are expected to lead by example.
Their loutish behaviour during the session and the Yang Berhormat who sleep in the debating chamber during proceedings tarnish the image of the nation.
