KUALA TERENGGANU: Pas will support the decision the Regency Advisory Council made on the appointment of the menteri besar of Terengganu, party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said yesterday.
"Now that the palace has appointed (Datuk) Ahmad Said the menteri besar, we will have to uphold that decision. We respect the role of the palace as a constitutional monarch and we hope Umno does the same.
"We accept the role of the palace and will support the choice made. We must remember that the ruler is part of the democratic process," he said at the Pas headquarters in Jalan Sultan Omar.
He said the controversy over the palace's appointment showed that Umno could not accept the right of the palace to exercise its constitutional rights.
Asked if Pas had made Ahmad an offer to cross over, Hadi said the party had never made such offer.
"But now that you ask, we are making an offer to all BN state assemblymen to join Pas.
"We are also calling for the people to evaluate the leadership in Umno, who seem more concerned about personal gains than the interests of the rakyat."
