KUALA TERENGGANU: Parliament should take the time to debate the various recommendations Suhakam has made.
Human Rights Commission of Malaysia vice-president Tan Sri Simon Sipaun said over the past seven years, the commission had published seven reports. However, not a single report, its findings or recommendations, had been discussed in Parliament.
"It is sad Parliament has no time to deliberate on the findings and recommendations on various issues related to the government, its agencies or the man in the street.
"Our reports also contains an audit report, but this too does not seem to generate any interest among members of parliament," he said after the opening of the "Suhakam with the Rakyat Programme" by Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said yesterday.
Asked how many reports of human rights violations the commission had received, he said last year there were 1,045 reports and 53 memoranda from the public.
