NIBONG TEBAL: The family of Kee Lian Kok, 29, the inmate who allegedly committed suicide in his cell in Sungai Buloh Prison, is puzzled over his death.

Family members are demanding answers to numerous queries, like how Kee died and why he was kept inside a dark room.

Met at the Kampung Sanglang funeral parlour here yesterday, Kee's older brother who declined to be named, said the family was very upset with the death.

"The circumstances leading to my brother's death looks very mysterious. We want the prison authorities to explain to us the actual situation.

"Why hadn't they patrolled the cell? Why was he kept in a dark room?"
The brother claimed Kee had written several letters to his wife and parents but were never given to them.

He claimed Kee had also written messages on the walls of the cell.

"We are also interested in finding out what the messages were about and when can we collect his belongings. I believe the writing on the cell wall was an apology note," he said.

Kee was found unconscious in his cell at 2pm on Monday and was pronounced dead when he was rushed to Sungai Buloh Hospital.

He had been charged with kidnapping and murdering his 7-year-old brother-in-law two years ago.

The cook and his mistress, Su Qiaomei, 36, were alleged to have kidnapped Ho Ping at a house in Subang Jaya on the night of May 18, 2006, and demanded a RM500,000 ransom from the boy's father for his release.

Kee's sister, who also declined to be named, said they last visited him on April 13,

However, she said they were denied entry when they went to the prison again on April 20.

Kee's mother was seen crying uncontrollably when she was told that Kee's wife and three children would not be attending the funeral.

Kee's brother and three sisters claimed the body from the hospital mortuary at 3am yesterday and brought it back to the family home here.

He will be cremated in the Chinese crematorium at Berapit, Bukit Mertajam at 10am today.
