KLANG: Police have arrested a close relative of a medium who was murdered execution-style here in Taman Sentosa in January.
The male relative, who is married, was arrested when he turned up at the police station after being summoned to assist in investigations.
District Criminal Investigation Department chief Deputy Superintendent Roslan Ibra-him said the arrest came after crucial information on the motive came to light.
It is believed that the relative was angry over the victim's alleged affair with a younger man and that he hired several people to kill her.
The victim, G. Vikneswary, 42, was gagged and blindfolded, and had her hands tied before being forced to kneel on the floor of her home in Jalan Dato Dagang 9 on Jan 31. Her assailants then struck her neck with a parang, nearly decapitating her.
Her body was found by her only child, H. Thanuja, 11, when she returned home from school at 2pm.
The assailants fled with a statue of a Hindu goddess and an undisclosed amount of jewellery. They also ripped off the gold earrings she was wearing and attempted to steal her Proton Waja.
Police theorise that the thefts were an attempt to make the killing look like part of a robbery.
Fondly known as "Amma", Vikneswary was well-known as a medium who regularly conducted prayers in her house where she would go into a trance.
Several people were initially detained in connection with the murder but all were released and the case seemed to have hit a brick wall.
Unhappy with the lack of progress, the deceased's family is believed to have written to federal police in Bukit Aman, urging the quick apprehension of her killers.
