KUALA LUMPUR: Former Ampang Jaya Municipal Council director Capt (R) Abdul Kudus Ahmad has been spared two months' jail on appeal after his 2003 conviction for taking another wife without approval.
Following the decision of Syariah High Court judge Mukhyuddin Ibrahim here yesterday, he will have to pay RM300 and the RM700 fine imposed by the Lower Syariah Court five years ago.
Abdul Kudus was charged with marrying Nazariah Said, 31, at the Regional Islamic Religious Council in Songkhla, Thailand, at 5.30pm on Dec 14, 2002 without a written approval from the court despite still being married to Halimah Abd Rahman.
The prosecution was conducted by Shamsudin Husin while lawyer Roslizam Rahimul represented Abdul Kudus. -- Bernama
