GEORGE TOWN: The developer of a 23-storey building, Bintang Holdings Sdn Bhd, under the Low Yat Group, said it will not jeopardise George Town's World Heritage Site listing.
The company said the project is located on the fringe of the buffer zone.
Low Yat Group's architectural and property services director B.S. Wee said the group had strictly adhered to, complied with all procedures, guidelines and regulations laid down by the state's relevant local authorities when applying and securing the approval for the condominium.
"As a responsible property developer who has been investing in the state since the 1960s, we will continue to cooperate and work with the relevant authorities towards the progress of George Town specifically, and the state of Penang in general," he said yesterday.
The group had acquired the land in 1968.
It was earlier reported that the proposed project by Bintang Holdings Sdn Bhd, was one of the four projects within the heritage enclave which could jeopardise George Town's heritage listing.
The other three projects are the 12-storey Boustead Royale Bintang Hotel, the Rice Miller Boutique Hotel and E&O Hotel's 17-storey expansion project.
