Thousands join 1Malaysia mass sing along session

2009/11/22

KUALA LUMPUR: It was an euphoric atmosphere at Bintang Walk when thousands of youths participated in a mass sing along session called Sing Along, 1Malaysia yesterday.
With orange microphones in their hands, the crowd sang to their favourite tunes from local and foreign artistes by simply looking at lyrics which appeared on a giant screen set up at the scene.

Hitz FM radio deejays JJ and Ian led the crowd in the five-hour karaoke session.

The idea for the mass sing-along session started when a song titled Through My Window by band Bunkface, aired over radio stations and printed in newspapers, created frenzy among the youth in the online social networking websites like Twitter and Facebook.

Telekom Malaysia collaborated to organise the event and invited artistes like Shila, Reshmonu, Tomok, Dafi and Mila in the culmination of Bunkface's new song which has become infectious since its debut on Oct 19.

Fans had dedicated a fan page for the music in social networking website Facebook and currently, it has a fan base of more than 20,000 and attracted more than 3.7 million online mentions and more than 6,600 video and audio uploads on its site.
