TAN SRI LEE LAM THYE, Kuala Lumpur
I WAS recently invited by a non-governmental organisation to present vocational service awards to various caregiver organisations and individuals in recognition of their outstanding service.
Various community, social and NGO activists who are caregivers and have rendered time, effort and love to take care of the very old, the terminally-ill, spastic children and others who need care and attention, were duly recognised.
The caregivers were nominated by several nursing homes, associations and NGOs for having proved their dedication to serve the terminally-ill, needy and others.
I have worked in the areas of crime prevention, occupational safety and various other social causes.
In the course of my work, I have come across many compassionate Malaysians who have never failed to lend a hand.
I pay tribute to these selfless and committed caregivers and social workers who have been working tirelessly behind the scene to provide care and love to those who need it.
These dedicated and committed caregivers should be aptly described as the unsung heroes; they deserve to be honoured with service awards.
The caregivers' commitment to care for the sick, the needy and the less fortunate should be recognised by the government during the annual presentation of federal or state awards.
