Mum kills herself over special kid

GEORGE TOWN: A 36-year-old housewife with a new-born mentally retarded baby leaped to her death from the Paya Terubong flat here yesterday.

Northeast district Acting Police chief Superintendent Gan Kong Meng said investigations revealed that the deceased also had mental problems.

Gan said in the incident, which happened about 2.15pm, the housewife fell from the upper floor and landed on top of a car parked on the ground floor.

"The impact damaged the car and shattered its windscreen," Gan said yesterday.

He said the housewife, who lived near the foothill of Penang Hill, became depressed after knowing that her three-month old baby was mentally retarded.

Her body was sent to the Penang Hospital mortuary for a post mortem.
