A TRIBUTE to Michael Jackson and a nod to Bollywood set team Dynamix ahead of the pack at the recent Inter-College Hip Hop Dance Competition.
Going up against six crews from tertiary institutions in the Klang Valley, Dynamix — consisting of six students from Multimedia University and SEGi University College — wowed the crowd and judges with its smart dressing, perfectly synchronised moves and faultless timing.
Formed 1½ years ago, Dynamix practised for two weeks for the event.
The group — comprised of Justin Leo, Marilyn Leo, Lim Say Meng, Jardian Teo, Ngan Meng Chiang and Antonell Chew, all aged 17 to 22 — summed up its inspiration in one word — ‘passion’.
For its achievement, the crew took home the first prize of RM1,000.
Runner-up Max Identity won RM500.

The six-member crew from Tunku Abdul Rahman College presented a diverse mix of moves and a high level of music mixing injected with cheeky video game elements.
The first competition of its kind, Mad2Max saw more than 200 supporters cheering for their teams at Euphoria by Ministry of Sound.
The contest, which was organised by HELP Matriculation Centre, saw crews opting for classic hip hop songs from the 1990s, Michael Jackson tributes and Bollywood-inspired sequences.
During breaks in the competition, there was a beatbox performance by Kimberly S’ng of Sunway University College whose ability to produce deep bass sounds and hum melodies at the same time was a hit with the audience.
D8Second Crew member and D8Second Dance Studio owner Jack Tan and Urban Groove Dance Network founder and chief instructor Joel Tan also performed during the interval.
Jack and Joel, together with Mr JJ (Bboy JJ) of the CID Crew and instructor at Dance Option Studio, made up the panel of judges.
