THERE are so many things a mobile phone can do that it makes you wonder what’s next.
Beyond making/receiving calls, mobile phones have become entertainment tools via support for MP3, radio and television.
Then there are the video and photo capturing capabilities which have become quite a norm with handphones. These days, even the most basic phones have a camera.
Internet capability is the next interesting function that has been incorporated in high-end mobile phones enabling users to browse the web, upload pictures, blog and access email while on the go.
Let’s not also forget the global positioning system-enabled mobile phones — a feature that allows users to track their locations.
Mobile phone manufacturers are clamouring to get consumers’ attention by introducing new functions to their line-up of new phones. However, not all of these functions have mass appeal.

Recently, Samsung Electronics introduced the BeatDJ M7603, a music phone with deejay function.
The mobile phone has turntable features which allows users to “scratch” the records to create their personal music. It is like playing vinyl records. The interface on the Beat DJ has been designed to deliver the same turntable experience on the handset.
Users can add their own voice and sound effects to their favourite tracks. There are buttons — REC, Scratch, Filters and Samples — on the mobile phone that allow control over the mixing deck.
The phone has built-in stereo speakers powered by Bang & Olufsen’s ICEpower technology and SRS virtual surround sound to produce rich bass and clear treble.
Aspiring deejays will probably take to this idea.
Other features include the Fake Call function, which simulates the phone ringing, and the Mobile Tracker function, which helps users locate their lost phone.
