INFORMATIVE. Enlightening. Fun. These are the words that best summarise the recent Third Tunku Abdul Rahman College-Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (TARC-MAICSA) Student Convention held at the college’s Kuala Lumpur campus.
Some 252 Business Management and Business Administration students from the School of Business Studies attended the annual event organised by the student committee in collaboration with MAICSA.
The convention aimed to provide students with an insight into career opportunities with an ICSA qualification. It was also a chance to develop soft skills. “Chartered secretaries are in high demand in Malaysia,” says MAICSA chief executive officer Philip Tan in his briefing to the students. The event also featured a corporate experience sharing session by Erdington Corporate Consultancy director Jessica Liew together with TARC alumni Woo Vi Dea (a MAICSA prize winner) and Chan Pui Yee (a MAICSA scholarship holder). “I find the briefing helpful as the speaker shed some light on queries we have about the career prospects and the qualifications needed to become a chartered secretary. “I enjoyed the Amazing Race (game session) which has helped to boost my self-confidence, and hone my leadership and communication skills,” said participant Peggy Go, an Advanced Diploma in Commerce (Business Management) student.
