Tropical storm Parma lands on Hainan

HAIKOU: Tropical storm Parma made a powerful landing in Wanning City in the southernmost island province of Hainan on Monday, China's Xinhua news agency reported quoting the the provincial observatory as saying.

The Hainan provincial meteorological station said Parma landed in Longgun Township at 9:50 a.m. Monday, packing wind with a speed of up to 54 km per hour.
No casualties were reported. As of Sunday night, the city had called 2,188 vessels back to harboUr and evacuated 3,791 people working on the sea.
China's central observatory said on Sunday that besides Hainan, the storm would also bring strong winds to coastal areas of Guangdong and southern Fujian as well as Taiwan.
