Beyonce's no show a letdown

2009/10/19

KUALA LUMPUR: R&B diva Beyonce Knowles’s concert this Sunday has now been postponed to a later date.In a Press release issued by the concert promoter Marctensia Entertainment, a new date for the concert will be announced at a later time.

The official press statement by Beyonce’s artiste management company, Music World, will be released later this week.

It is learnt that the decision for a postponement was made solely by the artiste “and has nothing to do with other external reasons,” the Press release states.

The multi Grammy award-winning artiste was earlier scheduled to perform at the National Stadium Bukit Jalil as part of her I Am... World Tour. Rumours of her possible no-show began trickling in since yesterday evening, popular social networking website Facebook and messaging service network Tweeter.

A check on Beyonce’s official website revealed that Kuala Lumpur is no longer listed as part of her worldwide tour dates.

Beyonce cancelled her 2007 show in KL and made a stop in Indonesia instead when news about her concert was getting a lot of heat from a political party.

Although official statement given by her management was “scheduling conflict”, industry observers wondered if the dress code for performers had something to do with that decision as well.

Other female superstars including Gwen Stefani, Avril Lavigne and Mariah Carey have all adhered to the ruling -- although Mariah demonstarted a silent protest by wearing a shirt and a pair of jeans throughout her Charmbracelet show at Stadium Merdeka in 2004.

With Beyonce, her second trip seemed imminent when her website posted a message saying that the singer, “for the first time, ever has decided to make Malaysia part of her I am... World Tour”.
