KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) secretary-general Datuk Radin Malleh said, it was up to the state government to decide whether or not to shift the Head of State's (TYT) official birthday (Sept 16), to another date.
He said this was because Sept 16, which coincides with the Head of State's official birthday, has been recognised as Malaysia Day and declared a national holiday by the Federal government.
"We leave it to the state government to decide (on this matter)," he said in a statement here today.
Radin said PBS was indeed very grateful for the recognition by the Federal government.
"PBS from its inception on March 5, 1985 has been advocating the birth of the Federation of Malaysia September 16, 1963.
"In fact, PBS president Datuk Joseph Pairin Kitingan in one of the BN supreme council meetings, had suggested that August 31 be recognised as Independence Day of the country and Sept 16 as Malaysia Day," he said.
