LOW Wee Wern was denied her first Wispa Tour title outside Malaysia by Welsh third seed Deon Saffery after a gruelling five-game battle in the Finnish Open final in Mikkeli on Sunday.
Deon dashed top seed Wee Wern's hopes of becoming the third Malaysian after Nicol David and Sharon Wee to win the Finnish title with a 13-15, 16-14, 11-2, 3-11, 11-7 victory in 59 m i n u t e s.
The result was a reversal of theNSC Satellite No 5 final in Bukit Jalil last December which World No 35 Wee Wern won in five games over Deon.
The Finnish Open has traditionally attracted several of Malaysia's rising squash players ever since Nicol won her maiden professional title there in 2000 before Sharon claimed the fourth of her seven Wispa titles in 2005.
WeeWern, 19, won the British Junior and Asian Junior titles this year and is based in Amsterdam where is she is training alongside World No 1 Nicol.
