Katy Perry to host EMA again.
MULTI-PLATINUM international star Katy Perry is set to host the 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA).
The only artiste ever to be asked to host two successive shows in the 15-year history of the MTV EMAs, Katy will bring her trademark energy and enthusiasm to the stage as the event broadcasts live on MTV (Astro Channel 713) from the O2 World, Berlin on Thursday at 9pm. Her EMA debut saw her open the show astride a giant cherry Chapstick and also win the Best New Act category. These catapulted her into the stratosphere as a global music artiste. The upcoming awards will reach more than 502 million homes around the world. This year, Katy will be going head-to-head with Beyonce, Lady GaGa, Shakira and Leona Lewis as she is nominated for Best Video for her smash track Waking Up in Vegas.
MTV Networks International co-executive producer and senior vice-president for talent and music Bruce Gillmer said in a press release that “It’s no mean feat to take the central role at a music event of the scale and heritage of the EMAs, but Katy did an outstanding job in Liverpool — and we came back to her as first choice for this year’s awards.
“Katy’s deep connection to the world of music, her dynamic personality and her worldwide appeal made her a natural choice.” Meanwhile, rap titan Jay-Z and pop maestro Robbie Williams are the latest major league music names to be unveiled as performers at this year’s MTV EMA.
Celebrity presenters include Sports Illustrated model and actress Bar Refaeli, WWE superstar Batista, former world No. 1 and Olympic Gold medal-winning tennis player Boris Becker, Brody Jenner from MTV’s The Hills and Bromance and US pop boy band Jonas Brothers. British soul singer-songwriter Joss Stone will be presenting an award and making her hosting debut on 2009 EMA: Red Carpet Show, which will see her interviewing artistes as they arrive for the glittering event. 2009 EMA: Red Carpet Show will be available via www.mtvema.com on 8pm the same night. Leading 2009 EMA nominees include Lady GaGa and Kings of Leon, with five nominations apiece. They are closely followed by Beyonce who has been nominated in four categories.
