An early morning landslide at KM12, Batu 9, Jalan Ipoh has forced the closure of the old trunk road near Templer's Park.
Search and rescue teams are at the scene to look for victims trapped in the rubble.
The authorities were alerted by flat dwellers nearby who heard rumbles at 2.45am.
Gombak deputy police chief Superintendent Rosly Hassan advised motorists from Rawang heading towards Kuala Lumpur and those heading to Rawang town to use the North South highway.
However, those living in the area can use an alternative route nearby to turn into Selayang Muncipal Council.
The alternative road is out of bound for heavy vehicles.
Rosly said the landslide occured when the 100-metre hillslope at Taman Sierra collapsed.
