Three men rob security van on RM200,000

2009/11/05

PENANG: Three men armed with pistols, robbed a security van and escaped with RM200,000 cash in Gelugor here at about 9am today.

North East police district chief ACP Azam Abdul Hamid said during the incident, the van was parked at the back portion of the security firm, to load money that was intended for distribution to various banks here.

"According to the driver of the van, he was alone in the van and waiting for his colleagues who had gone into the office when three men armed with pistols appeared suddenly and ordered him to come out of the van. They hand-cuffed him before escaping with the loot," he told reporters here today.

"Apart from the money, the robbers also took away a pistol and revolver that belonged to the security firm."

Azam said police have not ruled out an "inside job" for the robbery. - Bernama
